[back on the bus]

Ugh I know, I know. I've been missing all week. I wish I had an excuse but I just don't.

You see I started a new job on Monday (YAY!). When you've been out of work for a while, going back to work is a bit of an adjustment, especially when you're the furthest thing from a morning person and have to be at work at 7 AM.

By today two interesting, conflicting things happened to me.

On the one hand, I was adjusting. I didn't feel like I was fighting sleep all day. But at the same time, I was a rundown wreck.

If you're confused by those last three sentences, don't worry so am I. It's a confusing time in my life right now.

Anyways.

Last night Dad flew into town; he and Mom and are headed out to the West Coast for an anniversary vacation (30 years for those crazy kids!). We all 3 met up for dinner, which meant leftovers for lunch for me.

This morning I grabbed my leftovers and headed off to work. All morning I looked forward to those leftovers.

Finally, blessedly, noon rolled around. I finished up my invoice and headed to the fridge to grab my lunch and head for the break room downstairs.

Then it hit me: I forgot silverware. No big deal right?

Actually, it was. I couldn't eat my lunch.

You see my new office is a green office. They've eliminated all paper and plastic products from the kitchen areas. No cups, no silverware, no napkins. Nothing. On my first day, the new boss wanted to give us a cup of coffee. 20 minutes later he came back with paper cups from a different floor.

So far it seems to be working: everyone in the office has their own mug and water bottle that they bring, thereby eliminating a lot of waste. Let's be honest, we'd all have days when we'd chose to just use a paper cup instead of carrying one more darn thing. Oh that's the other thing: a lot of us float around. You see, after you've been with the department for 6 months, you're allowed to work from home 4 days a week. In fact, they encourage it. Strongly. That means desks are in a constant state of flux in general population. Of course the managers have their own offices but the rest of us just sort of bounce around. Every morning I wait nervously for someone to walk up and say "hey that's my desk." So far, so good on that front at least.

The point I was trying to make is that you have to carry your things to and from work every day since you don't have a permanent desk. Ergo, carrying a mug and a water bottle being a nuisance.

I couldn't exactly sit in the cafeteria eating mashed potatoes with my hands so I ended up at Arby's because it was the only thing I could find.

You know, this post had a point. I forgot what it was. I think it's time for this tired little tour guide to get some sleep.

  1. HAHA oh no! What an unfortunate incident! On another note, your new job sounds awesome. Being able to work from home AND go into the office sounds great (I mean, why else would you have cute professional clothes, right?). Do you love it? After being out of work myself for over a year now (grad school), I am really feeling antsy to get back! Must be great! :)
