hiking in heels, pt. 2

On the Friday after Thanksgiving, Mom, Dad, Kara, and I decided to forego the Black Friday sales and instead drive out to the Grand Canyon with a pit stop in Sedona on the way up.

For the most part, I'm going to let the pictures talk.

The Grand Canyon is one of those places that you must see in your lifetime. Seriously pictures do not do it justice and I can't wait to go back and spend a few days hiking around it. We did a little bit of hiking while we were there. There are places around the viewing areas where you can actually cross the railing (FYI, this is not recommended by the National Park Service so shhhh) and scoot right up to the edge. Periodically we'd slip under or over a barrier and nervously inch as close to the edge as we dared while Dad hovered near the barrier constantly telling us that we had gone far enough. In his defense it was super windy that day and I was wearing all the wrong shoes for such an excursion. Expecting to just stick to the paths, I had worn a pair of wedges. They weren't high wedges and were super comfortable but they were still wedges. By the grace of God I never fell, even though I spent a lot of time worrying that I was about to pitch head over heels into the Canyon and bounce all the way down like a cartoon character.

We ended our day climbing under another barrier to watch the sunset. As per usual, I was convinced I was going to just spontaneously fall off the edge of the rock (I didn't). Watching the pinks and purples creep over the canyon was the perfect end to the day.

I really can't emphasize enough that if you have the opportunity to go to the Grand Canyon, take it. This is not something to be missed and is well deserving of its spot on the list of wonders of the world.
